The China Coast Guard had continued to navigate in the contiguous zone around the Senkaku Islands until the end of September. The frequency of territorial sea incursions has decreased to two-third of August. In October, the incursion of China Coast Guard vessels in the contiguous zone around the Senkakus had halted from October 2 to 4. On October 5, the China Coast Guard resumed its incursions into the contiguous zone around the Senkaku Islands. The frequency of incursions is the same as before the interruption. This interruption is believed to be due to Typhoon No. 18.

Since the end of August, Peoples‘ Liberation Army’s naval vessels have been more active. China and Russia deployed their naval vessels to the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk in September and conducted the joint sea and air drills.

After the drills, Chinese naval vessels continue to navigate around Japanese territorial waters. China’s Admiral Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier “Liaoning” has continuously conducted take-off and landing exercises in the Pacific Ocean, including the waters near Okinotori-shima.
