The China Coast Guard has continued to navigate in the contiguous zone around the Senkaku Islands on a daily basis. The frequency of
territorial sea incursions also returned to the levels of June and July in August, although interrupted by Typhoon No. 3. After the typhoon, the frequency of China’s maritime operation seems to be resumed.

However, as the fishing ban comes to an end, China has indicated that it will closely monitor and manage its fishing vessels, and appears
to be avoiding a situation in which tensions rise excessively. In fact, Cai Yongsheng, the Secretary of the Shishi Municipal Party Committee, has announced a policy of cracking down on “operations in sensitive waters” to local fishermen. The city announced
this on its website on August 9. The fishing ban ended on August 16, and it remains to be seen what specific actions the Chinese authorities will take.

around the Senkaku Islands and intruding into Japanese territorial waters. The below is from the website of JCG.

Japan Self-Defense Force confirmed one Chinese Y-9 (SIGINT/ELINT type) flew form the East China Sea on Augst 3. It crossed the Miyako Strait
and flew to off the coast of Yonaguni Island. It then returned to the East China Sea. On the same day, JSDF also confirmed 2 Chinese UAV (Estimated). One flew from the East China Sea and passed through the Strait between Yonaguni and Taiwan. It then flew to
the Bashi channel. Another UAV was flown from the Pacific and crossed the Strait between Yonaguni and Taiwan. It then flew to the East China Sea.

|
Four Chinese Coast Guard Vessels intruded Japanese territorial waters around the Uotsurishima Islands (Senkaku Islands) on August 7. They
stayed in Japanese territorial waters for one and a half hours. These four vessels also carried large gun, and this is the third time this year.

Monthly Statistics on Scrambles（July）
Japan Joint Staff released its monthly statistics on scrambles. In July, JASDF conducted 85 scrambles, and the most scrambles are against Chinese aircraft (72 times; the rest were Russian aircraft).
The number of scrambles was almost the same as in June (81 times)

JSDF confirmed Chinese UAV flew from the East China Sea on August 9. It passed through the Miyako Strait and went to the Pacific Ocean. It then turned around in the Pacific and
crossed the Miyako Strait again. It finally returned to the East China Sea.

|
Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force observed four People’s Liberation Army Navy Vessels including aircraft carrier, in the southern waters of Miyako Islands.
This Carrier Strike Group consisted of one Admiral Kuznetsov class aircraft carrier, Shandong (hull number 17), one Renhai-class destroyer (hull number 106), one Luyang-III class destroyer (hull number 165), and Jiangkai-II class frigate (hull number 571).
JMSDF also confirmed that the group then headed to the South China Sea between Augst 12
and 13. During this time, the group conducted takeoff and landing training 20 times.

JSDF confirmed one Chinese UAV (Estimated) flew from the East China Sea. It passed through the Strait between Yonaguni Island and Taiwan and went to
the Pacific Ocean. It finally reversed over the Pacific and returned to the East China Sea.
